Kechara Soup Kitchen

Food Security
for the Underprivileged Community

Food insecurity and food waste shouldn't coexist. We partner with businesses across Malaysia to access quality surplus provisions, then deliver them to registered families in need.

Sustained Support

Our Impact

In 2012, we established the Food Bank to shift from reactive assistance to proactive stability. Rather than waiting for families to become homeless, we intervene earlier by providing consistent food support that helps them weather financial storms.

Your Questions Answered

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does KSK's Food Bank programme work?

We operate a dual system: delivering dry provisions worth RM250 to registered families every two months, and rescuing surplus food from hypermarkets, convenience stores, fast food chains, hotels, F&B outlets, wholesale markets, food manufacturers, and farms for immediate distribution to families and charity homes. This addresses both long-term food security and reduces environmental waste.

  • What items are included in dry provision packages?

Each RM250 food pack contains essentials designed to last two months: biscuits, canned goods (baked beans and sardines), a chocolate-based drink, cooking oil, dry/instant noodles, milk powder, oats, and rice. Contents may vary depending on available donations and are tailored to meet nutritional and cultural needs.

  • Who can receive support from the Kechara Food Bank?

We serve low-income families, single parents, elderly individuals, persons with disabilities, Orang Asli communities, and registered charity organisations across Malaysia. Families facing food insecurity can register with us for regular provision deliveries after a home visit is conducted to verify their eligibility.

  • How can my company donate surplus food, produce, or items to KSK?
  • Does KSK follow food safety and hygiene standards?

Yes, as a certified member of The Global FoodBanking Network (GFN), KSK follows global standards outlined by the network. All surplus food is inspected for quality and safety before distribution. We maintain proper storage facilities and cold chain logistics to ensure beneficiaries receive safe, nutritious food.
